The Penyu Shell-Ter Project:
Where Art Meets Conservation
The Penyu Shell-Ter Project unites art, community, and conservation to protect Malaysia’s endangered turtles. “Penyu” is the Malay word for turtle, a fitting symbol for this project rooted in local culture and conservation. Launched in celebration of YTL Group’s 70th anniversary, the project is carried out under BUILDS, YTL Cement’s CSR arm. It showcases 70 concrete turtle sculptures, each re-imagined by 51 Malaysian artists and public figures. Together, these creations celebrate local creativity and shared purpose.
Culminating in a charity auction, 100% of proceeds will go to the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS) and PULIHARA. YTL Cement will also donate RM5,000 on behalf of each artist to an NGO of their choice, extending the project’s impact to community causes across the country. With the endorsement of the National Art Gallery and the support of YTL Hotels as our venue sponsor, the Penyu Shell-Ter Project stands as a meaningful platform that elevates Malaysian talent and builds a legacy of conservation that endures.
Note: All proceeds will be donated to the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS). Donations are eligible for tax exemption.
